Your Dedicated Guide in Japan — Akiho

I’m Akiho, a licensed national guide-interpreter.
Born in Tokyo and raised in New York, I now live in Hayama, a charming seaside town about an hour south of Tokyo near Kamakura.My husband, our two daughters, and I moved here from Tokyo to enjoy a life surrounded by rich nature.

I have worked in the tourism industry for over 10 years, and I served as the exclusive guide for the British Sailing Team from 2017 through the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Following that, and the end of the pandemic, I then started my career as an English guide for international guests as my daughters were grown.
Now, with the support and understanding of my family, I offer full support including guiding, itinerary planning, and travel arrangements.

Why I Guide

What I love most about this job is experiencing Japan’s culture through travelers’ eyes — sharing their excitement and seeing familiar places in new ways. And of course, meeting wonderful people from around the world while being right here in Japan is incredibly rewarding. One of the other great things is that through research and site visits, I’m constantly rediscovering the beauty and richness of my own country as a Japanese. Japan has so many incredible places and traditions that a lifetime isn’t enough to fully explore them all.
