Kamakura and Hayama

🏯 Kamakura Temple Walk
Anchor Tour will take you to hidden temples and shrines avoiding the crowds of Kamakura.
We will also customize our tours based on our guests’ interests, offering optional experiences such as kimono dressing, tea ceremony, traditional wagashi (nerikiri) making, and Japanese-style medicinal (yakuzen) lunches and more!
Here are Anchor Tour’s recommended places to visit in Kamakura, and a small trip to neighborhood town “Hayama”!

1. Sugimotodera Temple
Founded in 734, the oldest temple in Kamakura.
Known for its moss-covered stone steps.
Also you may enjoy the huge thatched roof gate and 11-faced Kannon statues (Important Cultural Properties) from close range.
Tip: Visit in the morning or after rain for beautiful moss views.

2. Hokokuji Temple (The Bamboo Temple)
Peaceful bamboo grove behind the main hall.
Enjoy matcha tea at “Kyuko-an” teahouse (small fee).
Tip: Arrive early to avoid crowds. Calm and cool even in summer.

3. Komyoji Temple
Famous for its lotus pond, which can be viewed from the temple’s corridor.
Also sells beautiful candles shaped like lotus flowers.
Has the largest gate in Kamakura.
Currently under construction until 2029, but lotus pond in available.

4. Eishoji Temple
Has a small bamboo groove at the hill top.
You can enjoy matcha under the wisteria trellis at the Shoin in May.

5. Sasuke Inari Shrine
Shrine of foxes!
Known for its mystical atmosphere, red torii gates, and countless fox statues.

6. Stretch out to neighborhood small town “Hayama”
Lunch, hands on experiences and peaceful view of Mt.Fuji.

*Food – Hikage Chaya:A traditional Japanese restaurant with stunning garden and Japanese cuisine. Has a history of over 350 years
*View – A view from local Morito Shrine. Morito Shrine offers what is considered Japan’s most beautiful view of Mt. Fuji, with a red torii gate in the water, a watchtower, and Enoshima Island completing the scene.
